3D Touch Panel

Earlier this month Mitsubishi Electric unveiled their new "3D touch panel" technology. Current touchscreens can read your finger's position anywhere along the X- or Y-axis; Mitsubishi's innovation is to read the finger's position on the Z-axis, adding another level of measurable interaction. The design, Mitsubishi hopes, will increase the functionality of a small screen--enabling no-touch mouseovers and submenu pop-ups, for example.

DO YOU POKEN ?

In the real world...
With your poken you instantly connect with new friends across online social networks when and where you meet them.

At any computer with web access...
The poken hand pulls out of the body, revealing a USB connector. Insert the USB connector into any computer with web access to easily upload your new contacts to the Poken web database.

On doyoupoken.com...
You choose which of your social network profiles you would like to share with people when you meet them in the real world.
A small logo of each social network you choose is displayed as a link on your « Poken Card ,» which shows only your most basic information. Your contacts can view your Poken Card on doyoupoken.com, but, if they want to see more, they only have to click the logo to see your profile on the social networking site you’ve chosen to share.
On the Poken site you and your friends can view your contacts alphabetically, or chronologically in your "social timeline." You can also send messages, group contacts with a label, write notes for yourself about each contact, and so much more.

Welcome to Poken: "DO YOU POKEN ?"

When Microsoft decides to imagine the future, it never fails to impress. Not only do you have some of the smartest people envisioning what’s possible, but they also invest so much into communicating these ideas through sights and sounds which the production value can be compared to most blockbuster sci-fi films.

Objectified: A Documentary Film by Gary Hustwit

Objectified: A Documentary Film by Gary Hustwit: "Objectified is a feature-length documentary about our complex relationship with manufactured objects and, by extension, the people who design them. It’s a look at the creativity at work behind everything from toothbrushes to tech gadgets. It’s about the designers who re-examine, re-evaluate and re-invent our manufactured environment on a daily basis. It’s about personal expression, identity, consumerism, and sustainability."

Realtime Twitter Search Results on Google (MT Hacks)

Realtime Twitter Search Results on Google (MT Hacks): "While I am not sure if Twitter poses a threat to Google, I think it is clear that real-time search is increasingly important. And you can be sure that Google knows it. Will Google try to acquire Twitter, or take some other approach? Time will tell, but rather that wait, I decided to get realtime twitter search results on Google today. I created a Greasemonkey user script that does exactly this. It displays the most recent 5 tweets for the query that you are search for, giving both real-time Twitter search results and Google results on the same page:"

NYTimes: A Visual Yearly Overview of News (1984-2009) - information aesthetics

NYTimes: A Visual Yearly Overview of News (1984-2009) - information aesthetics:

A series of visualizations [flickr.com] that represent the top organizations and people mentioned in the news articles of the New York Times for a given year of news between 1984 and 2009. Connections between these entities are drawn, so that relationships can be found and followed. These circular graphs are based on the faceted searching abilities of the NYTimes Article Search API, that were released a short while ago.

More information on the blog entry of the author, Jer Thorp.

Reminds me of the circular graph of the Eigenfactor project, although some subtle differences in "bundling" the edges for visual clarity exist.
